THE SUBTLE GOLD LEAF.

THE SUBTLE GOLD LEAF. THE SUBTLE GOLD LEAF. THE SUBTLE GOLD LEAF.

Are your pastries and buns a little lacklustre at the minute? Perhaps you’re tired of serving cupcakes with a boresome buttercream swirl. You need a show-stopping finishing touch to elevate your sweet treats and set your baking apart. At Cake Craft Company, we’ve got an easy answer for you. You need a sprinkle of gold! 24 karat edible gold leaf has the power to completely transform your cookies and sponges into creative, extravagant masterpieces. Your bakes will be nothing short of heavenly.

So, how do you incorporate real, glittery gold into your creations? Here are 3 ways to use edible gold leaf in your baking for some inspiration.

1. Coat The Entire Cake

We may as well suggest the most expensive option at the beginning. You can coat your entire cake in gold and dazzle your friends and family with serious shine! Bear in mind, when you’re baking a five-tier wedding cake or a giant birthday cake, the surface area you need to cover is substantial. This exercise is costly. Still, a gold coating will sparkle and impress on any occasion.

To achieve a dipped-in-gold finish, you’ll need sheets of edible gold leaf rather than flakes. Transfer leaf will suit the task better since loose-leaf is more likely to tear.

Steps For A Tidy Gold-Wrapped Cake:

  1. Carefully coat your cake in fondant.
  2. Moisten the outside of the fondant on your cake with a damp paper towel.
  3. Place your transfer sheet face down on the cake, and apply gentle pressure.
  4. Slowly pull the wax away from the gold sheet to reveal the wrapped gold.
  5. Repeat the process on bare fondant, ensuring the surface is still slightly damp.

Once your cake is fully wrapped, you’re nearly finished! Add some buttercream piping around the edges of your cake, and garnish with some edible diamond gems. Extra sparkle is always an excellent idea.

2. Dress Chocolates In Gold

Everybody loves chocolate, so it makes sense to make cocoa the focal point of your cake. Decorate your cupcakes or your pastries with some gold-encrusted truffles! Compared to wrapping the entirety of your cake with a gold leaf sheet, this idea is more affordable and suitable for smaller occasions. What’s more, you have endless creative license to experiment with different colours of frosting to accompany your chocolates.

Both gold leaf sheets and flakes are suitable for decorating chocolates and truffles, so you can use whatever you’ve got to hand!

Steps For Adding Gold To Chocolates:

  1. Choose which chocolates you’d like to use. Round shapes tend to look the prettiest.
  2. Lightly apply a thin coat of water to each chocolate with a small paintbrush.
  3. Gently press your gold flakes or leaf sheet onto one chocolate at a time.
  4. Repeat the process until every chocolate you require has been coated.
  5. Assess each chocolate, and press down any edges of gold that have started to curl.
  6. Position the chocolates on your cakes or pastry with some icing to act as glue.

It is worth noting that you don’t need to add your gold-covered chocolates to any bake. You can enjoy these alone and serve them independently at a party. The choice is yours!

Add Flakes To Glace Icing

Perhaps your signature bakes are a little more classic. Lemon drizzle loaves wouldn’t suit gold-coated chocolates, and they don’t need to be entirely coated in gold to be beautiful! We’ve got the perfect solution for you too. You can add a sprinkle of champagne gold leaf flakes into your glace icing for an extra sparkle that remains tastefully understated.

Gold glace icing can also make a delightful topping for cinnamon buns. No matter your favourite bake, you’ll have a fun idea to incorporate the beauty of gold.

Steps To Create Gold Glace Icing:

  1. Mix around 20ml of warm water with 125g of sieved icing sugar.
  2. Stir until the icing is thick enough to coat a spoon and all sugar has dissolved.
  3. Add a sprinkle of gold flakes into the mix, and stir, so they’re evenly distributed.
  4. Carefully pour your gold glace icing onto your bake.
  5. Sprinkle an extra helping of gold flakes on top of the glace icing while it is still tacky.

So go forth and drop the jaws of anybody who witnesses your baking! You’ll never serve bland food again, only lavish cakes and pastries. Top up your cake decorating supplies with our range at Cake Craft Company.
